Guidelines for Ministers of Communion
- Arrive at Mass 10 to 15 minutes early, go to the sacristy and have your name ticked off. This is important so the Coordinator knows whether to arrange for a substitute.
- Process up at the Lamb of God prayer. Do not wait to the end of the prayer.
- Communion ministers for bread to go to the right of the altar, wine ministers go to the left.
- Ministers for bread wash hands and sanitise if required.
- First person on the bread list, goes to the tabernacle, removes the ciborium and takes them to the altar.
- Father will distribute hosts to all.
- Father gives a communion cup to the first person in the line . That person then gives wine to people on the Altar.
- Go to the arrange places to distribute sacred body and blood.
- As people come up, look at them; say “Body of Christ” or “Blood of Christ” and give them Communion.
- Take the communion cup back, wipe with purificator, inside and outside the lip of the cup, rotate the cup slightly.
- When finished, go back to the Altar and place the Communion cup on the table. Go back to your place.
- First person on bread is responsible for returning the Ciborium from the altar to the tabernacle.
- After mass, the designated person takes the communion cups, drinks what precious blood is left and washes up.
